Trimethylsulfoxonium iodide is known as a sulfoxonium salt, which is used to produce dimethyloxosulfonium methylide with the reaction made with sodium hydride. In some applications, these can work as the methylene-transfer reagent that can prepare epoxides. Trimethylsulfoxonium iodide is used commercially for numerous applications. It is also functional as a methylene-transfer reagent demanded for the synthetic chemistry. This is needed to prepare ylide and make epoxides. This is also needed industrially for making the cyclopropyl esters. Melting point is 208 to 212 degree Celsius.
